embodied

O Fortunate One! Owing to the illusory nature of the Gunas, like a magic, no embodied being in this world could have been

  1. happy before, or
  2. he is happy now or
  3. he will be happy hereafter.

  1. Lust,
  2. anger,
  3. greed,
  4. jealousy,
  5. attachment,
  6. egoism, and
  7. vanity,
each one of these is very powerful; nobody is able to conquer these.

O Muni! The three Gunas Sâttva, Râjas and Tâmas are the entire causes of the coming into this bodily existence of every being.

Paparaja

Ambarisha Maharaj had brother who was very very sinful. Ambarish tried to preach to him but with no success. So he asked Narada Muni to preach to his brother.

Lord Narada did not wanted but finally he agreed.

When Lord Narada came to see sinful Raja, he was greeted with respect but upon hearing preaching words of Narada Muni Raja started to scream and to throw wine’s bottles on Lord Narada. So Narada Muni had to escape, but from a distance he shouted to Paparaja (sinful king) “When you will be in front of Yamaraj (Lord of death), ask him just one question: What is the result of having Sadhu sanga (association with a pure devotee of God)?

After death Paparaja was certainly taken to Yamaraja’s court. Upon hearing from Citragupta about sins committed by Paparaja, Yamaraja felt compasion and said: You will certainly be thrown to hell for eternity, but I can fulfill your last request now, what do you want?

Hearing such words Paparaja recollected Naradas advice and said: Could you tell me what is the result of having Sadhu sanga?

Lord Yamaraj became amased. He said: I’m sorry, but I here deal with sinners not with Sadhus so I don’t know the answer, but since I’ve promised to fulfill your last desire I’ll take you to Lord Brahma.

And they flew to Lord Brahma presence. Upon hearing such elevated question, Lord Brahma said: I’m sorry I am busy with my duty, and this questions are not within the realm of my creation. You have to go to Lord Siva.

When they arrived to Lord Siva kingdom, after hearing what’s the matter, He said: how can I answer such question? I am busy with such gastly creatures who follow me, I do not deal with this question, it is better to have to ask Lord Narayan himself.

After that they approached Lord Narayan in Vaikuntha (The supreme kingdom).

Hearing such a nice question The Supreme Lord smiled and said, gently: the result is that one is delivered to Vaikuntha by all means. So because you have already brought him here, he will stay and you my dear servants, please go back to do your duties.

Such is a result of Sadhu sanga.

Duryodhana

In the Stri Parva of Mahabharata, Gandhari mentioned the wife of Duryodhana and mother of Laxman. In the Shanti Parva, sage Narada narrated the marriage of Duryodhana with the daughter of King Chitrangada of Kalinga. In the Mahabharata, the wife of Duryodhana is unnamed but by most sources Duryodhana had only one wife, who was named Bhanumati in later interpolations.[9][note 1]

According to the story found in Mahabharata, Duryodhana abducted Kalinga king Chitrangada's daughter Bhanumati, the maiden of the fairest complexion, from her swayamvara with the help of his best friend Karna in the wake of having been rejected by her. It is described that he loved her immensely. On reaching Hastinapur, Duryodhana justified his act by giving the example of his great grandfather Bhishma abducting three princess of Kashi for his step brother.[10] Laxman Kumar and Lakshmanaa were the children of Duryodhana and Bhanumati.[11][12] Little is revealed about them in the Mahabharata other than Laxman's death in the Kurukshetra War and Laxmanaa's marriage to Krishna's son Samba.

After the Pandavas retired, only Yudhishthira reached the heaven alive. There, he saw Duryodhana, which shocked him. When asked by Yudhishthira, Narada replied that Duryodhana did his duties.[27]

Anavasara

The Narada Purana states that the deities catch a cold and get a fever just after Snana-yatra because of exposure to cool winds. To recuperate, Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra remain in seculusion for two weeks being attended by special servants named, Dayitas or Daitapatis, who are descendants of the sabaras, the original worshipers of Nila Madhava. The Daitapatis render what is celled Sri-Anga-Seva- attending to the personal divine form of Lord Jagannath. During the fifteen days of anavasara, Jagannath, balabhadra and subhadra are offered a medicine of fruit juices and indigenous herbs and roots. The Daita renovate and repaint the deities with natural paints that need about 15 days to dry, charcoal is used for black color, mother-of-pearl for white, turmeric for yellow. The pupils of the Deities eyes are painted by the temple priests not the painters. In tribal dialect the word anasara means to 'dry up’.

Ganesha

There once took place a great competition between the Devas to decide who among them should be the head of the Gana (the troops of semi-gods at the service of Shiva). The competitors were required to circle the world as fast as possible and return to the Feet of Parvati. The gods took off, each on his or her own vehicle, and even Ganesha participated with enthusiasm in the race; but he was extremely heavy and was riding on Dinka, a mouse! Naturally, his pace was remarkably slow and this was a great disadvantage. He had not yet made much headway when there appeared before him the sage Narada (son of Brahma), who asked him where he was going. Ganesha was very annoyed and went into a rage because it was considered unlucky to encounter a solitary Brahmin just at the beginning of a voyage. Notwithstanding the fact that Narada was the greatest of Brahmins, son of Brahma himself, this was still a bad omen. Moreover, it wasn't considered a good sign to be asked where one was heading when one was already on the way to some destination; therefore, Ganesha felt doubly unfortunate. Nonetheless, the great Brahmin succeeded in calming his fury. Ganesha explained to him the motives for his sadness and his terrible desire to win. Narada consoled and exhorted him not to despair; he said that for a child, the whole world was embodied within the mother, so all Ganesha had to do was to circle his Parvati and he would defeat those who had more speed but less understanding.

Ganesha returned to his mother, who asked him how he was able to finish the race so quickly. Ganesha told him of his encounter with Narada and of the Brahmin's counsel. Parvati, satisfied with this response, pronounced her son the winner and, from that moment on, he was acclaimed with the name of Ganapati (conductor of the celestial armies)[24] and Vinayaka (lord of all beings).[25]
